State GOP Offended that Hood Supporting Kerry

"Kedwards"? Are they guys for real? They sound like a bunch of fourth-graders.

The state GOP party is all bent up like a pretzel over the fact that a DEMOCRATIC attorney general is supporting the DEMOCRATIC candidate for president. They whine on their Web site: "Jim Hood (D - Houston) ran for Attorney General as a mainstream, small-town Mississippian, but yesterday he came out for the gun-grabbing, anti-Mississippi, anti-family agenda of the Kerry/Edwards - 'Kedwards' - ticket. What is he thinking? Are Hood's true beliefs coming out now that the election is over? One thing is certain, Hood's endorsement of Kedwards is a long way from mainstream Mississippi values. Do we really want him issuing legal opinions on our behalf?"

From the linked site:Somehow we don't think the positions of Jim Hood's choice for President will go over very well in Houston, Texas much less Jim Hood's hometown of Houston, Mississippi. They've got a lot to learn about Houston, TX (unless they are including the suburbs...which are about what you'd expect of suburbs). Maybe they're confusing Tom Delay's nearby district with metro Houston as a whole. Two words say 80% of all: MONTROSE DISTRICT (the artsy and Gay center of the city). The other 20%? CONSERVATIVE WHITE FLIGHT from the city. You tell me how the CITY of Houston, TX will vote in November!!

Philip, I think the assumption by the Mississippi GOP is that their constituents are too stupid to do such an, er, in-depth anlysis and figure out that they're just pumping silly rhetoric. I mean, just read the nasty and condescending tone of that entire Web site. Like I said, before, sheer contempt for Mississippians. Or, as one of my favorite bumper stickers says, "Mean people suck."

Also, I saw that "Outfoxed" documentary last night. Wow. The best parts to me were the actual footage of the chiding, deriding, yelling, disrespectful, fib-filled "news" reporting and commentary that those people do -- and I"m not just talking about Bill O'Reilly. I've never been able to watch that network more than five minutes at a time due to its unprofessionalism, so it was very telling to see the footage. It's that same tone that you see on the Mississippi GOP Web site -- making fun of people who don't agree with them. And belittling. The footage of O'Reilly dressing down the son of the man killed in the WTC attacks was just chilling, as was the footage of him lying later on about what the young man had said on his show. Does the GOP really think it's going to get *more* voters, and keep all the ones it has, by acting like children on a daily basis? (All the while they're cutting public education and kicking grandma off Medicaid. Hmmmm.)?

My favorite part of the missive is that Kerry and Edwards are "anti-Mississippi." That's as opposed to Mr. Bush, who is presumably "pro-Mississippi." Mr. Bush's "pro-Mississippi" stance would be obviously reflected in how much better every typical Mississipian's life is since Mr. Bush took power, rolled up his shirtsleeves and started working on Mississippi problems like getting and keeping good-paying jobs, getting healthcare to kids, increasing border security and security at potential terror targets (such as nuclear plants), eradicating poverty, improving education and fixing the damn potholes. The other whopper -- attacking Kerry's voting record using the Brady Campaign, which right now is working feverishly to get support for a reauthorization of the ban on assault weapons. The Brady Campaign is working with the Million Mom March on their anti-Mississippi, anti-family crusade to keep a ban that was lobbied for in the 1980s by none other than...Ronald Reagan. Who, by extension, must have been "anti-Mississippi." Which makes sense, when you think about it...he was, after all, from Hollywood.

I think "pro-Mississippi" is shorthand for "pro-carting-Mississippi-jobs-off-to-China-and-such-exotic-locales" and "pro-subjugating-the-rights-of-Mississippians-to-corporate-donors"; you just need to understand the lingo of the MSGOP.
