Child Safety Seat Raffle: The Mayor's Office, Jackson Fire Department, and Mississippi Safe Kids will give away 5 car seats and 5 booster seats at the Annual Jack and Jill Fun with Santa event December 11, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Jackson Medical Mall. Participants must register at the Jackson Fire Department display booth and names will be drawn to determine the winners. Sponsored by the Mayors' Challenge to Buckle Up America and the Mississippi Safe Kids Campaign, this effort seeks to increase child seat safety awareness.

State Farm Donates Smoke Detectors to JFD
State Farm Insurance Company donated 100 smoke detectors to the Jackson Fire Department this morning. These smoke detectors will be donated and installed by the Jackson Fire Department to elderly citizens.

“We really appreciate State Farm Insurance for this important donation to the Jackson Fire Department,” said Jackson Fire Chief Raymond McNulty. “We are committed to aiding the elderly community in installing much needed smoke detectors for those who are without. This type of partnership aids us significantly in achieving that goal.”

Natural Gas Safety Information Available to Seniors
The City of Jackson Department of Human and Cultural Services and the staff of Mississippi Valley Gas / Atmos Energy Company will provide information on Natural Gas Safety at local senior citizen centers throughout the month of December. These and many other programs are FREE to the public. For more information, please call 960-0335.

Roll Off Dumpster Day

The City of Jackson’s Solid Waste Division will hold its next Roll-Off Dumpster Day Saturday, December 11, 2004 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., depending on weather conditions.

Jackson residents may bring yard waste and other household debris to any of the following locations:

+ Ward 1 McLeod Elementary School, 1619 Sandlewood Place
+ Ward 2 Lake Hico Park, 4851 Watkins Drive
+ Ward 3 Lavernet Road, Jackson Hawkins Airport
+ Ward 4 George Kurts Gym, 125 Gymnasium Drive
+ Ward 5 JPS District Enochs Complex, 101 Near Street
+ Ward 6 Oak Forest Elementary School, 1831 Smallwood Drive

Residents are asked not to bring tires, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, chemicals, or gas tanks. These items are not accepted in the Roll-Off Dumpster program.

Citizens are required to place debris inside dumpsters themselves, and no businesses are allowed to participate.

This service is for Jackson residents, and proof of residency may be required.
