WHAT: The first of four 2003 gubernatorial candidate debates to be held across the state. The event is being sponsored by WLBT-TV and Belhaven College and will be aired live on WLBT-TV.
WHO: Gubernatorial candidates Gov. Ronnie Musgrove and Haley Barbour will debate issues/questions presented by WLBT-TV reporter Bert Case and WDAM-TV news director Randy Swan.

WHEN: 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 29, 2003.

ADMITTANCE:
• Approximately 400 seats will be available to the public on a first come, first served basis from 6:30 p.m. until doors close at 6:50 p.m.
• Ticketed attendees will be seated from 6 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.(Concert Hall capacity is 700.)

WHERE: Concert Hall, Belhaven College Center for the Arts, 835 Riverside Drive, Jackson, Miss.

Its hardly a debate. Its more like a longer version of the Neshoba stumps that they have taken on the road. They should be doing them in tents to more closely approximate the circus sideshow atmosphere.

I didn't see the debate; we were in the throes of press night. But the woman who attended for us called it a "circus" as well and bemoaned the repeated sound bites. I think I'm glad I missed it, although I think there's a tape floating around that I'll probably be forced to watch. Argh.
