NSA Chief: 'Nation State' Interfered in U.S. Election

The National Security Administration isn't big on public statements, so this one by Admiral Michael Rogers, the NSA's current chief, is raising some eyebrows.

According to a story in https://theweek.com/speedreads/662246/nsa-chief-openly-accuses-nation-state-using-wikileaks-tip-presidential-election">The Week, Adm. Rogers answered a question of about Wikileak's release of e-mails from the Hillary Clinton campaign saying:

"There shouldn't be any doubts in anybody's mind: This was not something that was done casually, this was not something that was done by chance, this was not a target that was selected purely arbitrarily," Rogers said. "This was a conscious effort by a nation state to attempt to achieve a specific effect."

The story goes on to suggest that the "nation state" in question is likely Russia, and the statement is being taken by some as a bold move given that Rogers is current the active head of the NSA.

Since https://mic.com/articles/159667/nsa-chief-mike-rogers-suggests-russia-tried-to-get-donald-trump-elected">Trump's election and a call with Russia's Vladimir Putin, Russia has stepped up bombing in Syria (they are, nominally, on a different side in that conflict than the one the U.S. is backing, at least under the current administration).
