City Announces Sewer Line Repair on Woodrow Wilson

Verbatim release from the City of Jackson:

Beginning Monday, Oct. 24, construction crews will begin work to replace a failing section of sewer line that runs under the intersection of Woodrow Wilson Avenue and Bailey Avenue Ext. Due to the location of the sewer line directly beneath the middle of the intersection, construction crews will replace the line in three phases to keep Woodrow Wilson Avenue open at all times. However, there will be lane closures on Woodrow Wilson Avenue and Bailey Avenue Ext and turn restrictions and some detours for Bailey Avenue Ext.

For Phase 1 on the north side of the intersection, the following lane restrictions will be put into place:

• Woodrow Wilson Ave Westbound: all traffic will merge into the far left turn lane at the intersection. Left turns onto Bailey Ave Ext will be prohibited. Motorists needing to make the left turn will need to follow the posted detour signs.

• Bailey Ave Ext Southbound: all traffic will merge into the right lane. Left turns onto Woodrow Wilson Ave will be prohibited. Motorists needing to make the left turn will need to follow the posted detour signs.

• Bailey Ave Ext Northbound: the left lane will remain closed as it has been for some time now.

• Woodrow Wilson Ave Eastbound: no lane closures or turn restrictions.

These lane closures and restrictions will remain in place until this weekend. Next week, crews will move to the middle of the intersection to continue the sewer repair work. Those lane closures and detours will be announced later this week.

Motorists should slow down and drive carefully through the work zone, obey all construction signage, and plan to add a few minutes to regular commutes through the intersection.
