'Mahalia' Auditions at New Stage

[verbatim release] Auditions for Mahalia: A Gospel Musical Monday, December 3rd at New Stage Theatre

Jackson, MS – New Stage Theatre, a professional theatre located in Jackson, Mississippi is seeking African-American actor/musicians for its upcoming production of Mahalia: A Gospel Musical by Tom Stolz about the life and music of Mahalia Jackson. The theatre is auditioning for one female actress/singer to portray Mahalia, one female actress/piano player and one male actor/piano player to portray multiple roles. All three performers will sing throughout the play.

Auditions will be Monday, December 3rd at New Stage Theatre. The auditions are by appointment only. Interested performers should call New Stage Theatre at 601-948-3533 ext. 236.

The show will be presented at New Stage Theatre from February 26 – March 10, 2013. Showcasing several great gospel numbers, Mahalia is a joyous celebration of the life and music of the world's greatest gospel singer: a humble, deeply religious woman whose expressive, full throated voice carried her from a three room shanty in New Orleans to appearances before presidents and royalty. The joy and inspiration of her heartfelt songs provide a counterpoint to the urgent messages delivered by her friend, Martin Luther King. Standing at his side, Mahalia Jackson became the musical voice of the civil rights movement. Mahalia showcases 22 great gospel numbers in a moving, often humorous musical tribute.

Tickets for the show can be purchased online at www.newstagetheatre.com or by calling the box office 601-948-3531.
