Madison-based Cathead Distillery (644 Church Road, Suite 1, Madison), Mississippi's first legal distillery, is relocating to 422 S. Farish St. in downtown Jackson, which will increase the business' production. Cathead will host a ribbon cutting for the new distillery on Dec. 8 and will have its grand opening on Dec. 12.

Austin Evans and Richard Patrick co-founded Cathead Distillery, which now sells products such as Cathead Vodka, Cathead Honeysuckle, Cathead Pecan, Bristow Gin, Bristow Reserve Gin and Hoodoo Chicory Liqueur, in 2010. Their new distillery is in a 20,000-square-foot space and will have equipment that Cathead can use to distill other spirits, including whiskey.

On Tuesday, Dec. 8, Cathead will hold the ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., and the new distillery will open to the public at noon Saturday, Dec. 12. Attendees will get to taste the local spirits and enjoy live music. Tickets are $10 per person for the grand opening.

Starting Dec. 17, the distillery will be open for tours and tastings on Thursdays and Fridays starting at 3 p.m., and at 11 a.m. on Saturdays. Guests can enjoy a bar full of local beers, a retail shop and a game of cornhole while visiting. Private group tours are available, and the distillery is also available for private events and business meetings.

Brick Street Pops to Hold Grand Opening

Brick Street Pops (400 Monroe St., Clinton), a popsicle shop in Clinton that opened in late August, is holding a grand-opening celebration Friday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The celebration will include a ribbon cutting and a Main Street Red Carpet Rollout, a ceremony for new businesses that are part of Main Street in Clinton.

In addition to popsicles, the shop offers retro candy and glass bottled drinks, such as root beer and orange cream soda. Brick Street has about 30 to 40 flavors of popsicles, with 14 flavors available on rotation every day, including cookies and cream, strawberry basil and sea-salt caramel.

Clay Mansell, Brick Street's owner, intends for his shop to be a family- and pet-friendly destination, with dog dishes outside for pet owners taking their animals for a walk and special "puppy pops" made of beef or chicken broth with a rawhide stick for the handle. The shop has both indoor and outdoor seating, and students at Mississippi College get a 20 percent discount.

At the grand opening, Brick Street will give free popsicles to ribbon-cutting attendees, and the shop will also have hourly specials and sales all day on items such as drinks and T-shirts. From 5 to 10 p.m., The Holy Ghost Electric Show, May Queen, Chad Perry and Robert Chisolm will provide music. Attendees who have liked Brick Street on Facebook can show their phones at the event to enter a drawing to win free popsicles for a year. The winner will be announced Jan. 1, 2016.

Brick Street's winter hours are 1 to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Beginning on March 1, 2016, the shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for spring and summer. The store is closed Sundays. Brick Street will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the grand opening celebration. For more information, call 601-990-9511.
