There's never a slow news week in Jackson, Miss., and last week was no exception. Here are the local stories JFP reporters brought you in case you missed them:

1. Some Jackson Redevelopment Authority commissioners want to know if the authority can wash its hands of problem Farish Street properties by giving them away.
2. A football freak accident puzzled Jackson's community when doctors attributed a Jackson Prep student's death to a sodium imbalance, one that can occur due to over-hydration.
3. The Mississippi Department of Corrections and its commissioner, Chris Epps, plan to renegotiate four private prison contracts.
4. Mayor Tony Yarber plans to move forward with plans to locate a Costco on Lakeland Drive even though the Jackson Planning Board voted against the rezoning necessary to do so.
5. Angered by the state's failure to fully fund the state's public schools, several Mississippi districts filed a lawsuit in Hinds County Chancery Court on Aug. 28.
6. After a long search Tuesday morning, law enforcement officials discovered the body of 17-year-old Katelyn Beard, who went missing last weekend.
7. Though state officials need to approve construction on a hotel in Fondren, building could commence before the end of the year, the developer says.
8. Brian Tolley, the executive editor of The Clarion-Ledger, announced his departure Tuesday afternoon on the newspaper's website.
9. A special circuit court judge officially ordered the dismissal of State Sen. Chris McDaniel's election challenge in Jones County Sept. 4.
10. After losing a fight at the city planning board on Aug. 27 to rezone 50 acres of land near Lakeland Drive and Interstate 55, Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber plans to appeal the decision.
