There's never a slow news week in Jackson, Miss., and last week was no exception. Here are the local stories JFP reporters brought you in case you missed them:

1. Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann expects the state's voter-ID law to be in effect by the 2014 midterm elections.
2. A couple of weeks before the end of Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr.'s third term in office, we sat together for about 45 minutes talking about his accomplishments, the campaign, what the future holds for him and the challenges facing the city of Jackson.
3. In September 2012, Arizona State University researchers monitored the website Backpage for a week. Out of 1,145 postings, the study found that more 900 advertisements offered sex or prostitution in Phoenix, and the authors believe many of the girls were younger than 18.
4. Fondren is closer than ever to having it's own pub, thanks to a group of local businessmen behind soon-to-be-open Fondren Public.
5. The Mississippi Board of Education has granted Jackson Public Schools' request for an extension that will buy the district more time to comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
6. In a surprise move, the Jackson City Council voted Tuesday to replace Ward 6 Councilman Tony Yarber with Ward 5 Councilman Charles Tillman as council president.
7. On Monday morning, the Hinds County Board of Supervisors approved interim appointments to the vacant District 2 and District 4 seats.
8. More than 2,000 Jacksonians attended the inauguration of Chokwe Lumumba and seven members of the City Council Monday at the Jackson Convention Center Complex.
9. Homebrewing is on the rise in the United States and is now legal in Mississippi. Read about the basics of homebrewing here.
