If taking your kids out for virgin margaritas on May 5 isn't quite what you had in mind, consider attending the second annual Cinco de Mayo event at the Mississippi Children's Museum.

Throughout the year, the museum offers a variety of special programming that emphasizes holidays and cultural awareness. Some recent cultural events have included a French festival and a celebration of the similarities between Africa and Mississippi.

The May 5 event will include activities such as making festive papel picado (perforated paper) flags from red, white and green paper; listening to popular Mexican music throughout the museum; and participating in an indoor Spanish-language scavenger hunt. Elementary-age kids are most likely to appreciate the scavenger hunt, whereas the art projects and music offer fun for all ages, including younger kids.
