Grady Champion will perform at the 31st Annual Farish Street Festival this weekend.

A weekend of history, music and soul begins tonight at the 31st Annual Farish Street Heritage Festival. At 6 p.m., a pep rally and a step show will kick off the event on the festival grounds on Farish Street, followed by live music all weekend. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the gate. If you're looking for an international cultural experience, Crossroads Film Society presents "Getting Home" from China and "I am from Titoy Veles" from Macadonia at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Global Lens film series at the Mississippi Museum of Art. After the movie grab a drink and hear the Gypsy jazz band, Swing de Paris at Hal and Mals, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. There are plenty more music options tonight. The JFP Music Listings shows dozens of choices, from DJs to Karaoke, blues, rock 'n' rock, country—you name it.

Wake up early Saturday, and you'll be sure to have the first pick at local farmer's markets. You can stock up for the weekend or the whole week at the Mississippi Farmer's Market, the Congress Street Market or the Greater Belhaven Market. Saturday is also a perfect day for gallery hopping. See the Mississippi Invitational at the Mississippi Museum of Art, or, if you're in the mood for something sweet, head to the Jackson Street Gallery in Ridgeland for a "Cupcake Party," featuring artist Sarah McTaggart who will be painting at the gallery. On Sunday the Jackson Progressives with host the second annual Family Day at Smith Park at 2 p.m. bring the whole family and enjoy music, games, food and more. For a perfect end to your weekend, at 7 p.m. head over to the Lemuria.com building at Banner Hall for an evening of sacred chanting with Kirtan duo Shantala.
