Divest for Darfur: $400,000 by June 15

The Save Darfur Coalition has a campaign called Divest for Darfur to encourage investors to withdraw their money from companies who help fund genocide in Darfur.

From the donation Web site:

Divestment offers a powerful way to exert economic pressure on the Sudanese government to cooperate with international peacekeeping efforts.

Your gift will help fund the Divest for Darfur campaign and other crucial awareness and advocacy programs that play a critical role in building the political and economic pressure needed to end the crisis in Darfur.

Divestment worked for South Africa, so it can work for Darfur. Save Darfur is $340,000 short of their goal, so please make a donation today. The minimum is $5.

You can also sign the petition and take action in other ways here.

$415,356! Here's a note of thanks from SaveDarfur.org: I just want to thank you again for your recent donation. With your help, we raised $415,356 to help build the global movement to Divest for Darfur and support our other critical advocacy efforts. In the months to come, we'll be targeting more states, pressuring more companies, recruiting and engaging more activists, and launching more creative, hard-hitting ads to raise awareness. We believe in the power of divestment to finally get through to the government of Sudan - so that the atrocities stop, once and for all. We'll be in touch again soon to keep you up to date on all the latest news. Thank you again for your support. Your ongoing commitment is truly remarkable. Visit our Divest for Darfur website now to learn more and get involved. Sincerely, Colleen Connors Save Darfur Coalition

Oops, one more favor: Next Monday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will have an unprecedented opportunity to help end the genocide when she attends a meeting about Darfur with top officials from the U.S., China, France and other key nations. China, France, and the U.S. all have great influence over Sudan, but acting individually, none has yet been able to put enough pressure on the Sudanese government to stop the violence. By acting together, however, we believe these three nations can lead the world in ending the Darfur tragedy. Ask Secretary Rice to use this one-of-a-kind opportunity to urge China and France to join forces with the U.S. on Darfur diplomacy. Click here to send your message to Secretary Rice today.
