One of Mississippi's Best-Kept Secrets for Artists

I had to buckle down and do it this week. It was time-consuming and a bit intimidating, but I finally got it done. What? The application for the MS Arts Commission Artist Roster.

Haven't heard about it? I'm not surprised, but you need to get educated quick. The deadline for applications is March 1st for all poets, visual artists, filmmakers, storytellers and others. And don't forget about applying for the fellowships that are available every year. Money artists can use that doesn't have to be paid. Go to http://www.arts.state.ms.us for applications and to apply online.

My question is, though the MS Arts Commission does a lot for artists—why is it so hard to find out about these programs and services in place for us? Is there something that creatives can do to better network to keep this information circulating?

C.A., Thanks for the link. I will definitely be checking it out. My question is, though the MS Arts Commission does alot for artists---- why is it so hard to find out about these programs and services in place for us? Is there something that creatives can do to better network to keep this information circulating? There is one thing that Tom Head has started that may help - if you can help us spread the word. He began a group in Yahoo! called Jackson Area Creative Professionals. Maybe if you could join it and let others know about it, artists will have a central location for all kind of cool info. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jacp/ to join. I'm a moderator, so I'll approve your membership. I'll also post the link you provided to the group.

Thanks L.W. ! It feels good to be accepted. (smile) Will join the group today, and add it to my humble promotional information. There is so many opportunities out there for creatives. I just wish we didn't have to dig so far to get them.

You're welcome, man. Just watch the dates on those roster and fellowship deadlines. Next week is it, and I learned a few years ago---- they don't like to make exceptions.
