City Community Centers & Gymnasiums Plan Spring Break Enhancement Program for Children. The City of Jackson Department of Parks and Recreation announces that several of its city facilities will be open during spring break week for a Spring Break Enhancement Program for youth ages 7-12. Similar to the city's popular Summer Enhancement Program, this program will require registration, as there are a limited number of openings at each of the centers. Registration is free and will be conducted at the Jackson Medical Mall between the hours of 9:00 a.m.— 4:00 p.m. beginning February 28, 2005 until slots are filled:
This year's Spring Break Enhancement sites are:

Battlefield Community Center (953 Porter Street) — 25 slots available
Jayne Avenue Community Center (3615 Jayne Avenue) — 25 slots available
Vergy P. Middleton Community Center (3971 Flag Chapel Road) — 25 slots available
Champion Gymnasium (1355 Hattiesburg Street) — 25 slots available
Medgar Evers Gymnasium (3159 Edwards Avenue) — 25 slots available
Sykes Gymnasium (520 Sykes Road) — 25 slots available
Westside Gymnasium (1450 Wiggins Road) — 25 slots available

The program will run from March 21-25, and children may report to any of the above facilities from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Parents must bring children before 9:00 a.m. Participants must bring their own lunch and snacks.

Various supervised educational and recreational activities will be planned throughout the day.

Inner City Soccer League Registration

The City of Jackson Department of Parks and Recreation is partnering with the Metro YMCA to bring inner city soccer to Battlefield Park. Applications are currently being taken for the Inner City Soccer League.

Boys and Girls between the ages of 9-13 may register by team at the Jackson Medical Mall, Parks and Recreation Department (350 Woodrow Wilson Drive, Suite 311-C.

All games will be played on Saturdays.

The deadline for team registration is Friday, February 11, 2005 and there are limited team slots available.

City of Jackson Senior Service Division Reminds Citizens of Valuable Services for the Elderly

Security Bars & Smoke Alarms Available

The City of Jackson Department of Human and Cultural Services' Senior Services Division provides Security Door Bars and Smoke Detectors at no cost. Individuals sixty-two (62) years of age and older who meet eligibility requirements are encouraged contact the Senior Services Division at 960-0335 for more information.

Employment Opportunities

The City of Jackson Department of Human and Cultural Services, in association with Senior Services America, offers employment opportunities to individuals fifty-five (55) years of age and older. Call 960-0335 for more information.

Programs, Services and Recreational Activities

The City of Jackson Department of Human and Cultural Services offers a variety of programs, services, and recreational activities at local senior citizen centers, FREE of charge, to persons fifty-five (55) years of age and older. Services may include meals, transportation, self-development classes, recreation activities, home security items and community resource information. Senior Services are made possible through the joint effort of the City of Jackson, Central Mississippi Planning and Development District and individual and private donations.
